Jermaine caught up with Ayelady to discuss her art
You come into our lives through socials so we don’t actually know anything about you. Can you give us a brief background of yourself and how you got into painting?
hi there! where to start haha. My names Amber, I'm your average 23 year old , residing in Cronulla.
I use to paint a lot in my childhood. Life did distract me for a while then i just started doodling silly things and eventually picked up a brush. It just kind of happened. I'd probably go insane without it now.
Your works are generally very colourful and abstract. Are there any particular artist you are inspired by?
Mmmmm.. wow there are so many. I'd have to say at the moment I'm obsessed with Jean Michel basquiat that guy new what he was doing..... He had a beautiful mind. Also really enjoying Marcus Boelen, self taught artist who's just always has done his own thing and his colour choices are just utterly satisfying.
I’ve noticed you paint a lot on objects (eg. Vinyls and surfboards) what is the reasoning behind this? Do you approach objects differently compared to canvas?
Well to be honest I started painting objects because it's cheaper then spending money on a nice canvas. I'd just find things lying around or I am given things. I'm an emotional painter, it's literally my therapy like I'm sure it is for alot of people. I'd paint everything in my house if i could.
I approach objects relatively the same way as canvas ill just pick up any changes I need to make along the way.
