Getting to know: Parisian Street artist Laurent Vo Anh

Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself?

Hello, my name is Laurent Vo Anh. I’m half French and half Vietnamese and I define myself as an Humanist-ecologist revolutionary. I worked in high level finance and Jewish journalism since 20 years and tried to inject there as much as humanism that I could, I can tell that it’s not easy. Since 6 months after an interesting art mission for the Rothchild, I decide to stop all my activities to concentrate myself on art, now I just want to create an art collection.

Can you tell us a little bit about the Paris art scene that you are in and even more specifically the street art scene and what role that scene has in Paris society?

The place where I born became a famous artistic squat (hôpital éphémère) and the place where I finish my study became an art squat to (Diderot), and when I started my young adult life I did participate in open art squat. From the “weed and whiskey” breakfast to the late drunk and stone crazy night, I eat underground art 24/24h. To me, in this strange and violent world, it’s easy, the condemnation of the bad is evident and if the world is going wrong, it’s not only the fault of the bad mans and bad systems, but to me, the fault is mostly in our part, I mean the good peoples do wrong, they are guilty, we are deeply guilty ! Because we lose. If we have the light of love, we have to win. Then when I see something good, I’m not satisfied and I try to find a scandal. In the beautiful fashion art squat, rape and murder. In the street art stands, fight and violence for money and territory. Angels have on their white wings, blood. Do a critic of the system in fact is very easy, try to find where the fake angels fails is more interesting, at the end maybe we can make of this planet a social paradise, I work on it.

Numeric Art:

If you could be practicing your art anywhere else in the world right now where would it be?

To me the rural area's show me a deep and beautiful humanity. Casually, born in a tv, android, video game world, turn off our brains, we are deeply liberal-occidental and I feel us denatured when I compare us to the real smile of a rural kid. We lie, we cheat, we decline. Then I really want to do art where the modern and commercial art industry never go. I don't want to sale, I want to play. In a way I feel afraid because slowly by slowly I turn myself to a Punk-Amish-Bioecolo-artist and weed smoker with a deep youporn option in the brain, I’m a liberal-born demon who jump night and day to try to fly in the sky like angel, and I have some plumes, mostly in the quilts of my hotel rooms but I will fix it to make some wings !

Can you tell us a bit about your process when it comes to your art? Is it methodical and planned out or more free flowing and off the cuff.

My 250 ex girls friends all tell me that I’m quiet asperger autistic and I can tell that it’s a real mess in my head, kind and funny, but really messy. I’m also since 3 years declare Psychotik by my good doctor. The only thing that I can say is that create and do art is absolutely important, we are not robot in a factory world, we are not consumer in a supermarket world, we are not rich or poor in a bank world, we are human in an eternal and infinite space time, and the human are so complex and so beautiful, do art is an expression off this complexity. Work art night and day, open gate, looking for solution, shout, cry, sing, dance, turn on our head, do the maximum to feel free and from all of this make a souvenir as an art peace. When a customer buy me a drawing, he also buy the activity of a peaceful man who seat, smoke and trace lines so quietly.

Drawings:

What is your favourite artwork?

My favorite pictorials artists are Aron Wiesenfeld, Ray Caesar, Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Musha and Moebius. They all have a relation with the beauty of the women and I’m very sad because in my collection of 10 000 drawings there is only 4 or 5 womens. I can not draw them because I’m too fascinated. Even in the street I cannot talk to them without being ultimately shy. But I also have to say that my favorite artwork is the concept of life merge in the infinity and the eternity, it’s huge, it’s huge bro !
