Getting to Know: together PANGEA

Los Angeles fuzz guitar driven rockers - together PANGEA - have dropped their latest single 'Bet You Wish I Would Call.' The band who have been releasing some seriously tasty, slightly dark, rock over the past few years have moved to a brighter sound that that is reminiscent of the tunes of Lou Reed. It's the kind of song with the right amount of hooks in it that you can't help but get caught up in it. We had a chat with them about the release. Well we sent their management team an email and they sent it to the band and then the answers eventually came back to us. I just didn't want to lie to you guys and pretend I was in the room with them. I'd never lie to you!

I love the use of the key board solo for the bridge. It reminds me of a similar vibe to Rubber Soul by the Beatles or Loaded by the Velvet Underground with its quaint yet emotive movements. Would you say you were drawing any any specific inspirations when it came to the instrumentation and overall colour of this song?

I think that you pretty much hit the nail on the head. We were definitely thinking velvet underground and specifically Loaded. Good call. Kind of who loves the sun/ I found a reason. You can’t really hear it but Erik is drumming on his lap in that song. We were thinking no drums just lap but we ended up with some tambourine and floor tom.

You are releasing a second EP over the course of just a few months. Is there some kind of theme running through the two EPs at all that ties them together? Can you tell us what it is about this kind of release structure that you were drawn too?

The two EP’s were recorded at the same time but sound really different. That’s why we split them up, we felt that they work better as two groups of songs. We are releasing them as a “10 with the first EP on side one and the second on side two. We’ve never done a “10 so we’re really stoked about it.

Have you found your writing process evolving over the years and going down new directions or do you feel you have landed on a formula that works for you?

I’m not really sure, I think that my approach to song writing has changed a little. Right now I’m just looking to keep things as simple and direct as possible. Get a vibe going and stick with it. I’m also thinking more about writing songs to listen to at home as opposed to songs that are meant for the live show.

Would you rather: Every time you winked it made a ‘ding’ sounds or every-time you made a gun motion with your thumb and index finger it mad ‘bang’ sound.

It’d be cool if I when I winked the person who saw me wink heard a bell sound in there head but it wasn’t actually out loud

What are you currently listening too and loving?

I’ve been enjoying the new Lala Lala album

What can we expect next from you guys?

I don’t know. Rock opera? One act play? Feature film? The skies the limit.
