Track By Track with Hayden Calnin

Melbourne's Hayden Calnin has had an extremely successful year which has culminated in the release of his latest EP - A Life You Would Choose. A beautifully warm body of work that is extremely personal and considered with all the right elements for a night in front of the fire with a glass of wine and the one you love.

We got the crooner to give us a rundown of the EP following his beautiful set at Big Sound with the Nettwerk music group showcase.

Fuck Collingwood

Fuck Collingwood is probably the first song I’ve put out that lyrically just speaks to you as it was, rather than trying to make it sound poetic or full of analogies. I just wanted it to feel as real as possible while sharing my story about needing to make a move to get out of the city.

Warm With You

A song about running away to live off of the land, or start a little oasis away from everything familiar. Alas, things can always sound better as an idea rather than a reality. This track went through several changes before I finally felt comfortable with the final recording.

On Our Last Day

Knowing that a moment could be your last with someone can hit hard. That’s in essence what this song is about.

Made of Everything & Late

These two instrumental late-night jams that I laid down one evening after a big night out. They more or less represent my mood on both of those evenings. Although I had initially intended to lay down vocals I ended up feeling that they weren’t necessary to make the tracks feel complete.
